Academic Rotations & Training Opportunities
District Endocrine is committed to training the next generation of physicians and healthcare professionals โ offering hands-on clinical experience in a thriving private endocrine practice in Northern Virginia.
District Endocrine is deeply focused on training the next generation of physicians and healthcare professionals. Given the significant and growing shortage of endocrinologists and advanced practice providers across the United States, we believe that offering accessible, high-quality clinical training is not just an opportunity โ it is a responsibility.
All training opportunities at District Endocrine are offered at no cost to the trainee. These are free rotations and observerships, limited in availability due to scheduling and practice capacity. Spots are competitive and offered on a rolling basis. To apply, send a brief introduction and your availability to info@districtendocrine.com.
๐ Medical Students โ VCOM Rotation

๐ฅ Medical Residents โ Sentara IM Residency
District Endocrine is affiliated with the Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center Internal Medicine Residency Program. Dr. Anis Rehman serves on the faculty of this program and is actively involved in the endocrine education of senior internal medicine residents.
Residents rotating through our practice gain invaluable exposure to outpatient endocrinology in a private practice setting โ a perspective that complements their hospital-based training and prepares them for the realities of community-based endocrine care.
- Senior IM resident endocrine rotations available

๐ฌ Endocrinology Fellows โ Private Practice Experience
District Endocrine welcomes visiting endocrinology fellows from accredited fellowship programs who are seeking private practice exposure as part of their training. Fellowship programs are increasingly recognizing the value of outpatient community endocrinology experience as a complement to academic center training.
A rotation at District Endocrine gives fellows a firsthand view of how a high-volume, multi-provider private endocrine practice operates โ including patient volume management, prior authorization workflows, GLP-1 and advanced diabetes therapy prescribing in the real world, and the business and operational dimensions of independent endocrine practice.
- Open to fellows from any accredited ACGME endocrinology fellowship program
- Short-term observership or structured rotation options available
- Supervision by board-certified endocrinologists with academic and research backgrounds
- Exposure to thyroid ultrasound, FNA biopsy, in-office Prolia and Evenity injections, and advanced CGM/pump management
๐ International Medical Graduates (IMGs)
District Endocrine offers limited clinical observership opportunities to International Medical Graduates (IMGs) โ including both medical students trained abroad and internationally trained internal medicine graduates โ who wish to gain U.S. clinical exposure in endocrinology.
These observerships are designed to provide meaningful exposure to U.S. outpatient endocrine practice standards, electronic health record workflows, and patient communication in an American healthcare setting. While observerships are non-clinical in nature (observation only), they provide valuable U.S. experience that many IMGs include in their residency applications.
- Open to international medical students and IM graduates seeking U.S. clinical exposure
- Observership only โ no direct patient care as per U.S. regulatory requirements
- Limited spots available due to practice scheduling and capacity
- Completion letter provided upon successful completion of the observership
- Minimum duration: 2 weeks; maximum: 4 weeks per rotation
