What Is the Eversense 365?

The Eversense 365 (by Senseonics) is the world's only fully implantable continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) system. Unlike traditional CGMs that sit on the surface of the skin and must be replaced every 10–15 days, the Eversense 365 sensor is placed just beneath the skin of the upper arm by a trained healthcare provider — and lasts for a full year. It is FDA-cleared for adults aged 18 and older with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes.

At District Endocrine, the Eversense 365 sensor insertion and removal procedure is performed in-office — no hospital visit required. With a single in-office procedure once a year, patients enjoy continuous, real-time glucose readings without the hassle of frequent sensor changes.

How It Works

Step 1 — In-Office Insertion

A tiny pill-sized sensor (less than ¾" long and ⅙" wide) is inserted just beneath the skin of the outer upper arm by our provider in a brief in-office procedure. Local anesthesia is used. The sensor remains under the skin for up to 365 days.

Step 2 — Wear the Smart Transmitter

A rechargeable, water-resistant smart transmitter is placed on the skin directly over the implanted sensor using a gentle silicone-based adhesive. The transmitter wirelessly sends glucose readings to your smartphone via Bluetooth every 5 minutes.

Step 3 — Monitor via App

The Eversense app displays real-time glucose data, trends, and alerts on your iPhone or Android — and is compatible with Apple Watch. The transmitter also provides on-body vibration alerts for high and low glucose, even when your phone isn't nearby.

The In-Office Insertion Procedure

The Eversense 365 sensor is inserted in our office — no hospital or surgical center visit is required. The procedure is brief and performed under local anesthesia:

Before the Procedure

A consultation with our provider determines whether Eversense 365 is appropriate for your diabetes management. Insurance pre-authorization is initiated, and your insertion appointment is scheduled.

Day of Insertion

Local anesthesia is applied to the outer upper arm. A small incision is made and the sensor — smaller than a pill — is placed just under the skin. The incision is closed and covered with a simple bandage. The procedure takes approximately 15–20 minutes.

After Insertion

A warm-up period of approximately 24 hours is required before readings begin. Weekly fingerstick calibration (once a week after Day 13) is required. Readings every 5 minutes are then transmitted to the Eversense app. After 365 days, the sensor is removed in the same simple in-office procedure.

The Eversense 365 is covered by many insurance plans. Senseonics offers the Eversense PASS (Payment Assistance and Simple Savings) program, which allows qualified patients to receive the CGM sensor and transmitter for as low as $199 for a full year.
